Welcomers
Brecon cathedral is open every day of the year. During the Spring, Summer and early Autum there is a team of volunteer ‘Welcomers’. The Welcomers work in the Cathedral greeting visitors, giving directions and sharing information. They are co-ordinated by Mrs Pat Edwards. Extra weeks are covered depending on when Easter and the holidays fall.
A message from the Welcomer’s Co-ordinator, Mrs. Edwards.
‘’As a Welcomer at Brecon Cathedral you will fulfill a vital role in supporting the daily life of the Cathedral. We have visitors from all parts of the world including people who have been to Rorke’s Drift and Isanadlwana where they learned of the connection with Brecon. It is often very interesting and rewarding helping visitors.
You can work as little or as much as you are able and at a time convenient to you. Some people offer to cover the same slots each week or month. The sessions are 10am – 1.15pm, 1.15pm – 4.30pm Recently we have introduced 2hrs sessions, which are proving popular. If you would like to have a trial session, it can be arranged for you to shadow a Welcomer. If you decide to join us, you will be given training to familiarize you with the Cathedral as well as a handbook with information relevant to the Welcomer’s role, as well as a detailed history which will be yours to keep and refer to. Our Welcomers are all ages, many are retired. In this role, our Welcomers enjoy being involved in the day to day of this great and ancient Cathedral. There is such a wealth of history here and the Welcomers enjoy sharing their knowledge with the visitors – they find it very rewarding.’’
