Welcome to Brecon Cathedral

The Cathedral Church of St John the Evangelist seeks to be an inclusive, faithful, and holy community rooted in the active love of God, his creation, and our neighbours through prayer, fellowship, and service.

The purpose of this magnificent Cathedral Church of St John the Evangelist is to worship God. We pray here every day, following the pattern of St Benedict. The Cathedral welcomes everyone who passes through, if you are visiting as a tourist, come to offer your personal prayers and light a candle, or interested in history, architecture or stained glass windows. There are many things to see and learn about.

I hope as you visit the Cathedral you will come to know something of Christ's peace where Christians have worshipped for 900 years. I also hope that this will be a place where 'holiness dawns' in the hearts and lives of the guests and pilgrims who visit us.

We hope you will catch something of the mystery and peace of God here, and tell others so they may come to be welcomed too.

The Very Reverend Dr Paul Shackerley

Dean of Brecon
