Brecon Cathedral’s annual Choristers’ Concert will feature a performance of ‘Grenfell from Today’, which was recorded by Truro Cathedral Choir as a special charity single in remembrance of victims of the Grenfell Tower fire.
The song was the idea of Cornwall Hugs Grenfell, a project which has been organising Cornish holidays for survivors and firefighters in the aftermath of the disaster.
Stephen Power, Brecon Cathedral’s Director of Music, said: “When planning our annual Choristers’ Concert, I have been looking for something the choristers could sing together which stood out from the norm; something also to bridge the gap between the solo pieces the choristers will offer and the group items.
“The song ‘Grenfell from Today’ fits this brief so well, as it has a beautiful feel, a lovely melody, wholesome harmonies in the piano accompaniment, and to top it all, it touches the heart.
“In performing this piece, the choristers of Brecon Cathedral are standing as one with their colleagues at Truro Cathedral, who recorded the charity single, and with singers from across the world, to get behind those affected by the disaster at Grenfell Tower a year ago, and to show our support to those who are seeking to comfort the survivors, bereaved and those in the emergency services affected by the aftermath of such a tragedy.”
The Choristers’ Concert takes place at 7pm at the cathedral on Friday (July 20). Proceeds will go towards the choir tour fund – it is planning to visit Zurich next May – and there will be a collection for the Cornwall Hugs Grenfell appeal.
Tickets are £9 (free for children) and are available from the cathedral shop or on the door.
