Delight as Stephen Power is Appointed the Cathedral's New Director of Music

Stephen Power has been named as Brecon Cathedral’s new Director of Music.

Stephen, who is currently assistant organist, will take up the post when current director Mark Duthie leaves for Carlisle Cathedral at the end of the summer term.

Dean of Brecon Cathedral, the Very Rev Dr Paul Shackerley, said: “I am delighted that Stephen has been appointed as the next Director of Music. He succeeded to achieve the position during a two-day, challenging interview process. He has accomplished this through his commitment, hard work and merit. I am pleased that we will continue to work together to accomplish the cathedral’s mission and evangelism in the future.

“Stephen knows the cathedral and Brecon very well, having held the position as assistant organist for nearly three years, deputising for the Director of Music in his absence. He is a well-respected musician who has contributed to the worship, spirituality and mission of Brecon Cathedral. I continue to pray for Mark Duthie, who has been the Director of Music for 10 years, and I wish him well in his new post in Carlisle Cathedral.

“I am confident that Stephen will build on Mark’s work in securing excellence in the Cathedral’s liturgical and musical tradition. Brecon Cathedral has been enriched through having two excellent musicians, committed to the cathedral’s worship and mission.”
