Become a Welcomer in Brecon Cathedral

Brecon Cathedral is open every day of the year. During the Spring, Summer and early Autumn there is a team of volunteer 'Welcomers'. The Welcomers work in the Cathedral greeting visitors, giving directions and sharing information. They are co-ordinated by Frank Banks.

A message from the Welcomers' Co-ordinator, Frank Banks.

As a Welcomer you will fulfil a vital role in supporting the daily life of the Cathedral, continuing a 900 year tradition of hospitality. We have visitors of all ages and from all parts of the world. They are fascinated by the Cathedral’s long history including its connection to Agincourt, Rorke's Drift and Isandlwana; they are moved by its intimate peace and tranquillity; and are delighted to be able to take part in its living Worship day by day. All Welcomers find it very interesting and most rewarding meeting and helping visitors.

You can work as little or as much as you are able and at a time on our monthly rota that is convenient to you. Some people offer to cover the same slots each week or month, others change to fit in their other commitments. The sessions are 10am – 12pm, 12pm – 2pm and 2pm – 4.30pm; or if it suits you better 10am – 1.15pm and 1.15 – 4.30pm are possible too. If you would like to have a trial session, it can be arranged for you to shadow an existing Welcomer. Training is given to familiarise you with the Cathedral and you receive a handbook with detailed Cathedral history and other information relevant to the Welcomer's role. Our Welcomers are of all ages, many are retired.

If you enjoy meeting people, helping them get the most out of their visit to our ancient Cathedral, the town, and the surrounding area then becoming a Welcomer is for you.  Come and join us – you would be most Welcome!

If you are interested in finding out more about becoming a Welcomer please contact the Cathedral office.
