School and Group Visits to the Cathedral

We are proud to welcome groups of school children and other young people to the Cathedral. Below is a thank you letter from Christchuch School, Swansea, whose young people visited us recently. For more information and to discuss your own visit, please contact the Cathedral office and we will be delighted to assist.

Children in Year 1 to 6 had a fantastic day at Brecon Cathedral.

We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to all the people involved.

All the children took part in a range of activities to develop their understanding of the Cathedral.

Brecon 2

The children learnt about what the Bishop wears and what coloured robes are worn on specific days.

GREEN – Normal Day

PURPLE – Advent and Lent

RED – Represents blood and fire (Pentecost)

CREAM/GOLD – Christmas, Easter, Weddings and Christenings.

Brecon 1

The children enjoyed trying on the different robes.

Some of the children had chance to dress as Bishops and sit in the Cathedra (Bishop's chair)

The children designed their own stained glass windows.

The children had a challenge to find specific features of the Cathedral such as the organ and font.

The children went to the Soldiers' Chapel.

Whilst in the Soldiers' Chapel pupils used their senses to think about what they could see, hear, smell, taste and touch.

Brecon 4

The children took part in a Baptism. Some of the children had chance to take on the role of the parents and Godparents.
