Volunteering at Brecon Cathedral

WOULD YOU LIKE TO WELCOME VISITORS TO THE CATHEDRAL?

Every year from April to October, a team of volunteers welcome the many visitors who come to enjoy our ancient Cathedral. They arrive from every corner of the UK and from around the world, Canberra to Texas, Oslo to Cape Town. As a Welcomer, you are the smiling face that greets them at the door

WHAT DOES THE ROLE INVOLVE?

Good conversation, not a guided tour

It is a fascinating opportunity to chat to many different people and make them feel welcome, but rest assured, you’re not expected to be a guide. Most visitors are on holiday and are struck by the age of the building and moved by its tranquillity. The cathedral is not a museum; some of our visitors are pilgrims, visiting the Mother Church of our diocese to light a candle, to pray, or to join a midweek service.

FOR FAMILES

Families love it too, as children can become ‘Cathedral Detectives’ and earn points for tracking down various items. Can you find the glass mouse? It’s worth the maximum of 50 points!

WHEN WE WELCOME

However much suits you?

From late Spring to early Autumn, Monday to Saturday, we welcome visitors from 11am to 4pm. The day in divided into three slots.

11.00am to 12.30pm

12.30pm to 2pm

2pm to 4pm

Some Welcomers take one slot every month. Others take two slots every week. It is entirely up to you.

If you decide to become a Cathedral Welcomer, you will be shown the ropes and welcomed into a group of people who really enjoy meeting visitors from near and far.
