Ordinations Mark a Joyful New Chapter at Brecon Cathedral
Brecon Cathedral welcomed five new clergy into holy orders last weekend, as the Diocese of Swansea & Brecon gathered for its annual ordination service. The joyful occasion, held on Saturday 27 June, brought clergy, families, and congregations together to witness a milestone moment in the lives of the new deacons and priests.
Led by Bishop John, the service celebrated three new deacons and two new priests, each stepping into ministry after years of discernment, training, and service within their local communities. The sermon was preached by Rev’d Dr Stephen Adams, offering encouragement and challenge as the new ministers began their next chapter.
Those ordained were:
Dirk De Neve — Deacon, Swansea
Bashir Masih Gill — Deacon, Afon Tawe
Rhodri Williams — Deacon, Brecon & Epynt
Vicky Claridge — Priest, West Radnor
Lizbeth Matthews — Priest, Brecon & Epynt
Each ordinand brought a unique story of faith, vocation, and perseverance. Dirk De Neve, originally from Belgium, spoke movingly about finding a spiritual home in Wales and the support he received from his congregation as he trained for ministry.
This year’s service also came shortly after the announcement of Rev’d Dr Adrian Morgan as the new Dean of Brecon, himself ordained at the cathedral earlier in his ministry, a reminder of the cathedral’s long-standing role in nurturing vocations.
The newly ordained ministers now begin their service across the diocese, bringing fresh energy and commitment to communities from Swansea to Radnor. Their calling, shaped by personal journeys, prayer, and the support of their ministry areas, marks an exciting new chapter for the Diocese of Swansea & Brecon.
